Leaves 2-3 x pinnatisect into short, congested, linear-oblong laciniae 1-4 x c. 1 mm, ± silky-villose. Stems 3-20 cm. Involucral leaves sessile, laciniate. Flowers nodding, solitary, bell-shaped, violet-blue. Tepals ovate-oblong, 20-37 mm, very silky outside. Achene with a long plumose awn 2-4.5 cm. Fl. 6. Slopes, often igneous, 2200-4200 m.
