B. armenus Boiss., Fl. Or. 5:642 (1884). Rhizomatous perennial. Stems 10-60 cm, erect or decumbent, minutely hairy. Leaf blades 7-15 cm x 2-4 mm, flat or slightly involute, velutinous with short, grey hairs and sparse, longer white cilia, sometimes only on abaxial surface; sheaths similarly velutinous or glabrous, basal sheaths remaining intact when dead, enveloping stem bases. Ligule c. 0.5 mm. Panicle 4-10 x 2-4 mm, erect, with few spikelets, branches ascending, shorter than the 1-2 spikelets they bear. Spikelets 20-25 x 3-4 mm, oblong-lanceolate, puberulent or prui-nose, green or purple-tinged, florets somewhat divaricate when ripe. Glumes lanceolate, lower 6-8 mm, upper 8-10 mm. Lemma 12-14 mm, lanceolate-elliptic, rough or shortly hairy; awn 4-8 mm, straight or weakly out-curved. Palea little shorter than lemma. Anthers 5-6 mm. Fl. 6-7. Mountain meadows, rocky limestone slopes, 2000-3000 m. Syntypes: [Turkey A8 Gümüşane] in montibus Armeniae Turcicae, supra Baibut (Bayburt), [19 vi 1862], Bourgeau 711 (G!
