A. cucubaloides Smith, Ic. PI. Ined. 17 t. 17 (1789). Ic: Grossh., Fl. Kavk. 3: t. 21 f. 9 (1945). Erect, tufted perennial, 25-50 cm, glabrous below, glandular-pubescent above. Leaves 4-12 cm, narrowly linear, grass-like; opposite stem leaves united to form a sheath 4-9 mm. Inflorescence a lax cymose panicle or corymb of one to three 1-6-flowered cymules; pedicels 8-35 mm, very much longer than bracts. Sepals 5-7 mm, densely glandular-pubescent, broadly ovate, less than 2 x longer than broad, obtuse but appearing acute to cuspidate by the inrolling of the upper margin; middle portion herbaceous, violet to black at apex. Petals oblanceolate, c. 3 x longer than sepals. Staminal glands 5, small, flap-like. Capsule exceeding calyx. Fl. 6-7. Stony meadows, 1800-2300 m.
