L. microcarpa (Ledeb.) Gürke in Engler & Prantl, Natürl. Pflanzenfam. ed. 1, 4(3a):107 (1897). Syn: Echinospermum microcarpum Ledeb., Fl. Alt. 1:202 (1829); E. stylosum Kar. & Kir. in Bull. Soc. Nat. Mosc. 14:715 (1841); E. oliga-canthum Ledeb., Fl. Ross. 3:161 (1846-51). Ic: Ledeb., Ic. Fl. Ross. 2: t. 183 (1830); Pflanzenreich 97 (IV.252): 143 (1931) - poor. Profusely branched biennial, 12-35 cm. Leaves oblong to linear, sparsely clad with adpressed setiform hairs. Flowers subsessile, fruits borne on short 1-1 .5 mm pedicels. Calyx lobes linear, erecto-patent and caducous in fruit. Corolla infundibular, tube 1.7 mm, limb 3-4 mm diam. Nutlets depressed-pyriform, c. 2.5 x 1.3 mm, with strongly incurved margin and 2 rows of short-stalked glochids, c. 0.15 mm, borne on and beneath rim; disc and dorsal surface tuberculate. Fl. 6.
