A. macrocephalus Willd., Sp. PL 3(2): 1260 (1802). Map 41, p. 191. Stout, erect perennial, 50-100 cm. Leaves 17-25 cm; leaflets 20-60 mm, narrowly lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, very sparsely long simple-pilose below or glabrous on both surfaces, 11-20-paired; stipules 10-70 mm, lanceolate, herbaceous, very sparsely pilose to glabrous. Peduncles 4-8 cm. Inflorescence 3•5-5 cm diam., globose to oblong, dense, with 30-50 sessile flowers. Bracts 17-40 mm, linear to lanceolate, herbaceous, ciliate. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 15-18 mm, tubular-campanulate. sparsely long-hispid; teeth c. 6 mm, linear. Corolla deep yellow; standard 18-35 mm. Legume c. 8x4 mm, ovoid, pilose below, included in calyx, mucronate. Fl. 6-8.

Stipules 10-35 mm, narrowly lanceolate, sparsely hairy. Leaflets sparsely hairy. Inflorescence globose. Under Quercus, steppe, stony slopes, 450-1800 m.
