A. sylvestris L., Sp. PI. 251 (1753). Figure 6, p. 275. Erect perennial; stems 70-200 cm, striate. Basal leaves 2-pinnate to ternate, glabrous, ultimate segments 2.5-9 cm, ovate-elliptic, coarsely dentate. Umbels 15-90-rayed, rays papillose-hispid; umbellules c. 35-fiowered; bracts numerous, linear to lanceolate, simple to deeply dissected; bracteoles numerous, linear. Flowers pinkish-white; fruit 5-6x3.5-5 mm, elliptic to orbicular, glabrous; margins c. 1.5 mm wide. Fl. 7-8. By streams, damp grassy places, etc., 50-2200 m. 1. Basal leaves with 3-6(-9) cm, lanceolate to ovate, usually serrate ultimate segments: fruit wing 1-1.5 mm wide var. sylvestris 1.
